I’m a science fiction and fantasy author with three published novels and over fifteen short stories, many of which you can explore in the Stories section of this site. Originally from Malawi and now based in Zimbabwe, I also happen to be a qualified Environmental Auditor, and you may notice that environmental themes often find their way into my fiction.
In addition to writing, I offer professional editing services through Story Ink Africa: Writing Services, which I founded to support writers and professionals alike. We edit novels, nonfiction books, dissertations, and résumés (CVs), and also offer social media management services.
Feel free to explore my writing journey - past, present, and future - right here.

A scifi ecofiction novel based in the future of Malawi, where an environmental dictatorship forbids the burial of deceased loved ones - they must instead be recycled. Vinjeru, together with his classmate Sphiwe, helps his family give his grandfather a dignified burial, commit treason and soon have to run from a genetically enhanced government agent...
A speculative fiction anthology by award winning authors Muthi Nhlema and Ekari Mbvundula Chirombo, based on the imaginings of the Ngoni people of Northern Malawi.
"Khanyisile": A princess holds a terrible secret...
"Hiraeth": A warrior must protect the past from the future...
"Mombera Kingdom": A tourist's expectations are challenged when he is forced to put his saviour complex away...
These three stories tell a future inspired by the indigenous people who wish to craft their own de-colonised futures.
Ekari was awarded the Kekere Storytellers Fund in 2024 to support the completion of her novel Green Shadows: Vinjeru’s Awakening. This prestigious fund recognises writers with a strong track record of telling African stories that challenge stereotypes and celebrate the continent’s richness and complexity. It aims to counter the narrow, often negative narratives historically perpetuated by global media.
Before the worldwide lockdowns in 2020, Story Ink Africa primarily hosted live storytelling sessions that spotlighted emerging Malawian writers. These vibrant gatherings brought writers and story lovers together in shared celebration of local talent, culminating in the 2019 Fiction Festival, proudly sponsored by Hivos. Below are a few images capturing a season that was deeply enjoyed by both storytellers and audiences alike.
